Abstract
Helsinki Universiy Library's Centre for Microfilming and Conservation has become well-known worldwide through its leading role in the Tiden project which proved that quality microfilming of large amounts of newspapers with subsequent scanning, OCR (Optical Character Recognition) treatment (ABBY Finereader) with links between the text files and the images is cost-efficient, serves preservation needs and offers excellent reader services. In her Power Point presentation the author describes the Centre's activities, describes the European Minerva project, and then goes through the individual steps of the TIDEN project.
